Pinot Noir Sierra Mar

2015

The 2015 Red Stitch Sierra Mar Vineyard Pinot Noir is a full-bodied pinot noir which delivers a bouquet of wild blackberries and the damp earth of a beautiful forest path. On the palate, there are notes of dark chocolate covered cherries, a hint of oak coupled with well-rounded tannins and a lasting finish which reminds us that this pinot can be paired well with pork, duck, and even a savory cut of steak.

"This wine by retired baseball stars Rich Aurilia and Dave Roberts shows both ripeness and restraint in all corners. On the nose, that means star anise and slate layered across black cherry and blackberry fruit. On the palate, the very full mouthfeel packs thyme, crushed herbs and elderberry flavors into an earthy package." — Matt Kettmann

"This Pinot Noir provides a mix of firm, dusty plum and wild berry notes, with grainy, graphite-and lead pencil–accented tannins. More promising on the finish where the flavors gain footing and balance, yet a pebbly, cobblestone detail persists." — James Laube

"Longtime San Francisco Giant Rich Aurilia teams with fellow baseballer Dave Roberts to produce a wine with restrained, focused aromas of black cherry, pencil shavings, sarsaparilla and hints of allspice. The palate is all about black gravel and turned loam, with tiny bits of black cherry and noticeably firm tannins." — Matt Kettmann
